Wooden tray
Icehotel
Year Completed: 2014
Design: Monica Förster Design Studio
Creative Director: Monica Förster
Team: Riccardo Paccaloni
To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Icehotel, we created a limited edition tray that draws inspiration from the Arctic north of Sweden. Handcrafted from birch tree sourced from Jukkasjärvi, the village where a new Icehotel is built every winter.
Using the same chisels that are typically used for sculpting ice, the tray's shape is designed to evoke the natural feeling of ice while creating a striking contrast with its polished surface. The tray features textured edges that provide a tactile sensation and a smooth top that offers a glossy finish. Local craftsmen in Jukkasjärvi have crafted the tray by hand, using traditional tools and techniques. The tray is available in different colors through the application of natural wax.
